momentum for your
journey
Following their discharge, our veterans want to move forward toward their next stage in life
but they find it difficult to implement a responsible, attainable plan.
Momentum for Your Journey
was designed to address this need. This new, innovative program
was developed with the assistance of a generous grant by the Gandyr Foundation and with the
direction of Professor Gali Cinamon, Head of the Career Development Research Lab, at Tel Aviv University.
The Program assists the veterans in choosing a career path and instructs them as to how to plan
their next steps. During the course of the seminar, the veterans learn more about themselves,
their capabilities and the modern job market.
They acquire knowledge regarding the educational opportunities and the jobs available as well as
learning interviewing skills and resume writing which
enables them to join the workforce effectively.
Need and Rationale
Following their discharge, our veterans have great difficulty with the re-adjustment to civilian life and with all the responsibilities they are suddenly faced with.
As a result, many veterans put their lives on hold hesitating to make decisions that will help them move forward. Consequently, many veterans delay their education by 2-3 years and longer.
In addition, the college dropout rate of veterans is an astounding 34% by the end of the first year!
In delaying their decisions, many veterans avoid confronting their fears head-on and they work at jobs paying minimum wage that will not advance their careers only to find that they are back at square one, two or three years later. Some will not work or study at all. Some will go abroad to find themselves.
To make matters worse, as the current job market does not allow for planning decades ahead, many are afraid to make decisions or study for jobs that they suspect may no longer be relevant in 5 years.
Consequently, young people just starting off their careers are in a quandary and are in need of professional direction to move forward.
In order to address this widespread problem, Momentum, with a generous gift from the Gandyr Foundation, developed a new series of career seminars specifically designed to empower our soldiers to achieve their full potential.
